Introducing a Human Mediator Role within Kleros (Hybrid ADR Integration)

Hello Kleros Team and Community,

My name is Dokyung (D.K.) Kim, and I would like to propose the introduction of a human mediator role within the Kleros decentralized justice ecosystem — expanding on the ideas explored in Mediation Bridge and Harmony Bot projects.

As an international mediator/arbitrator and recent graduate of the Coursera program “Legal Tech and the Digital Transformation of Law” (taught by Federico Ast, Ph.D., Universidad Austral), I believe Kleros is uniquely positioned to pioneer a hybrid ADR model that combines AI-assisted mediation with human-guided negotiation and settlement processes.

:balance_scale: Background and Motivation

While Kleros’ juror-based system has redefined decentralized arbitration, many disputes could be resolved more efficiently at an earlier stage through structured mediation.
A human + AI hybrid mediation layer could filter and resolve a significant portion of cases, improve procedural fairness, and enhance trust among users.
This layer could operate transparently under Kleros’ governance and tokenomics principles while maintaining GDPR and ethical integrity.

:puzzle_piece: Proposed Structure
1. Pre-Arbitration Mediation Phase
• Parties can opt for a short mediation process before juror selection.
• Certified Kleros Mediators (human or hybrid-AI) facilitate dialogue via secure, auditable channels.
2. Escalation Path
• If no settlement is reached, the dispute automatically proceeds to juror adjudication.
3. Incentive Design
• Mediators compensated through token-based micro-fees.
• Reputation and neutrality evaluated through post-case feedback and periodic audits.
4. Credentialing System
• Mediators vetted for professional qualifications, ethics, and neutrality.
• Integration with on-chain verifiable certificates or reputation NFTs.

:bust_in_silhouette: About Me (Summary)
• International Mediator / Arbitrator — WIPO, SIMC, KCAB International, SCCA
• Former Head of Legal, Macquarie Asset Management (Korea)
• IMI-Certified Mediator, specialist in cross-border and finance disputes
• 23 years’ experience bridging law, governance, and technology
• Recent coursework: Legal Tech and the Digital Transformation of Law (Universidad Austral via Coursera, verified here)

:rocket: Call to Action

I would like to open a working discussion on designing a “Kleros Mediation Layer” — integrating human mediators into decentralized workflows, possibly under the Harmony Bot or Mediation Bridge track.

I welcome any feedback, references, or collaborators interested in building this next-generation hybrid ADR framework.

Warm regards,
Dokyung (D.K.) Kim

Hi @CassianK,

Thank you for your interest in Kleros and for submitting this proposal! I’ve shared it with the Cooperative Kleros team, and the feedback suggests it’s worth exploring further through our Fellowship Program. You can find all the details about the program in this blog post.

Please feel free to reach out to me directly on Telegram at @alexeth for a more detailed discussion.

Many thanks. I will apply the Fellowship Program!
